He is an adopted great grand son of Quanah Parker, who was the last Commanche Chief.
Much of his material is about the "Old West" and historical events and characters that shaped the region where he grew up. His love for yester year comes through in his music and lyrics. His first album is "The Amarillo Kid," is packed full of gunfighter ballads in the Spirit of Marty Robbins. Other songs are about adventure, friendship, romance and hardships of the American West. His follow-up album, "Amarillo" is full of stories about the Texas Panhandle. Coffman is excited about this release and would like to thank all of his friends who helped in the completion of this project. Joe Ed's third album is entitled "Inspiration" filled with songs inspired by Dan Fogelberg. A fourth album is entitled "Quanah Parker" dedicated to Quanah and the Comanche People

Inspiration
Coffman's third album is complete. This project is a complete U-Turn from the two previous CDs. Adult contemporary is as close as I can describe for you. Coming from the heart. This album came from the inspiration of Dan Fogelberg. Also dedicated to him.

Commissioned to Write
The Legend of Booger Red was a song Joe Ed Coffman was commissioned to write for a movie with the same name. It was filmed in Palo Duro Canyon in 2003, near Amarillo, Texas. A kind of dramatic - Comedy - Western. Joe Ed was the narrator, wrote the title song, also played the role of a "medicine man" in the movie.
After being roughed up once again by the dirty little town's resident bullys, Booger Red, at the urging of his only friend-the town whore, sets out to rediscover a gold mine once belonging to his dead brothers. Pursued by two no good cowboys; and helped by an Old dying Indian, Red, against all odds, succeeds in his quest, only after killing one of the cowboys while the other kills, and is in turn killed by, the Old Indian. Having found his riches, a near fatal snake bite may prevent him from realizing the comfort which he so desperately fought .

Texas Legacies
In 2004, Joe Ed Coffman was honored to portray his adopted Great Grandfather, Quanah Parker, in the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation's Production Texas Legacies in the Palo Duro Canyon outdoor theater just south of Amarillo. Quanah Parker was the last Comanche Chief and was responsible for saving the Comanche people from genocide, helping them in the transition of life into the white man’s world.
Joe Ed's fourth up-coming CD is entitled "Quanah Parker" . . . Released and is dedicated to Quanah and the Comanche people..
