Joe Ed Coffman has been a long time fan of Dan Fogelberg and his music. The news of Fogelberg’s death due to prostate cancer was a hard blow. Dan had played a strong influence on Joe Ed’s own music throughout the years and Joe Ed wanted to do something to celebrate Dan’s life and music.  His desire to do this led to creating a tribute concert to honor Dan Fogelberg but, not just any concert, he wanted to create a fundraiser to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation in honor of Dan. And so the work began: making contacts with PCF and LivingLegacy.net; Amarillo area musicians; seed money donors; etc.

Beilue: Musical cheers for effort by Coffman

In Joe Ed Coffman's first stab at a concert of Dan Fogelberg music to benefit prostate cancer funding, Jim Holston was tabbed as host of the event. He seemed like a logical choice. Holston was an activist, promoter, advocate of many causes. He also had prostate cancer and was in poor health.

"Friends of FogelbergWhen I was diagnosed with prostate cancer," Holston told a packed Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, "no one wanted to talk about it."

That was in October 2008. Holston would die just about one year ago - June 17. Coffman's benefit concert returns this summer. Dr. Richard Kibbey, Holston's urologist and himself a prostate cancer survivor, will host the event.

"If I can do something extra like this, I'm glad to do it," said Kibbey.
